Being triggered by the wealth of others is common, especially if you’ve struggled with a scarcity mindset due to past experiences when it come to money.
I hold my hands up and admit that I used to get so triggered by other people’s wealth on social media…
Seeing people showing off their wealth and success…
Their latest luxury holiday abroad… Their new designer handbag… Their astonishing client money wins… Their flashy new car… Their swanky apartment in the best part of town…
Because I had committed to cultivating a healthier relationship with money, I had to take a long, hard look at my triggers and sheesh was that squirmy uncomfortable! I felt grateful that the trigger had come up and made me aware of an un-healed part of myself, and yet I also felt like I wanted to resist the discomfort and just carry on with my day.
Shining a light on your shadow is not easy – it can feel scary, raw and cause lots of emotions to bubble up to the surface…
Not only did I have to ask myself if, actually, I did really want those things, but I also had to take a look at my own life…
I felt like a failure and was ashamed about what I had NOT achieved, despite my best efforts…
Except maybe they weren’t really my best efforts?
There was no doubt I was trying hard…trying what I thought was my best, but when I think about it now, I realise my efforts had limitations….
I would learn so much…until I had to do the scary things… I would challenge myself…until I had to the scary things… I would go so far…right up until I had to do the scary things…
Realising that I hadn’t really, honestly been giving my best effort was huge…and it also meant I had to face the scary things. I became aware that I wasn’t really working in my purpose.
I had to fully step into the life I wanted, where I was working fully in my purpose, and create a new reality. That meant being braver, being bolder and OWNING my life…stepping into my POWER. Scary, right?
Which meant more inner work was needed, more healing and building up my self-worth, more taking 100% responsibility for my own life…
More realising what was on the other side of the scary…and weighing up whether that was worth the effort…(it always is)…
More thinking about what wealth meant to me and how I might share my future success on social media
And in that I found a little bit of freedom, and I think this will help you too…
Here’s the magic word which helped me reframe my triggers: CHOICE
If money was abundant in your life, what would you CHOOSE to spend it on?
Would you go on expensive, luxury holidays? Yes, maybe you would. But maybe you would CHOOSE not to go too frequently because of the impact on the environment. Maybe you’d CHOOSE to holiday in places you’ve already been to, but with a little accommodation upgrade? Would you really buy expensive handbags? I mean, who doesn’t love a gorgeous handbag? You might CHOOSE to spend money on a good quality handbag. But over £100 – you might think, nah!Would you share your astonishing client wins? 100% YES, I reckon most people would! You might CHOOSE to celebrate them and show others what’s possible…but you might think about how to share respectfully and in context, without the 6-figure type bragging Would you buy a flashy new car? Maybe not a flashy one, but you might CHOOSE to buy a new, practical small car which you feel confident to drive…
There are no right or wrong answers here – it’s totally OK to desire the flashy car and designer sunglasses! You get to choose, remember.
Can you see how much more empowering it feels when you take ownership of your thoughts and realise you can plan for future wealth and success?
When we allow ourselves to get crazy triggered and not take the time to explore our feelings, we give away our power. We shrink and close. And the moment we do this, we send out a clear message to the Universe…
“I do not want to see wealth and opportunity…it makes me uncomfortable”
So next time you see one of *those* social media posts, take a break and with loving compassion give yourself a little time to reflect…
Think about what you would CHOOSE to do, how you would choose to share things online…what you would choose to spend your money on…
Because when you really think about how you would spend your money in the future…
You make your ideal life more accessible…You make it more personal…It feels closer, more achievable…
And the more real you can make it, the more likely it is to become your reality.
Visualise having the money to spend on those things…SEE yourself making those choices…FEEL into it…and write it down.
And you’ll realise that what you choose is as a result of taking brave, bold (and sometimes scary) action…
On the other side is more choice…more freedom…
